The quintessential story of growing up and of deeply rooted friendships that support these young girls through whatever life throws at them。 Beautifully narrated and illustrated。

A heartwarming story about friendship and growing up。 The story features four girls who were 'as different as they were the same' and follows their lives and friendship throughout the story。 I was surprised when reading further into the book, that the text could be more suited to Key Stage 2 and would be a great tool for using along using PSHE。 I loved the diversity in the book, and the symbolism of the apple tree and how this represents their rooted, lasting friendship。。 no matter what life may A heartwarming story about friendship and growing up。 The story features four girls who were 'as different as they were the same' and follows their lives and friendship throughout the story。 I was surprised when reading further into the book, that the text could be more suited to Key Stage 2 and would be a great tool for using along using PSHE。 I loved the diversity in the book, and the symbolism of the apple tree and how this represents their rooted, lasting friendship。。 no matter what life may bring。 。。。more

What a great book on building friendships and unity in friendships。 Four girls who are so different yet so similar who then grow independently to become women。 They have different interests and hobbies yet still support each other and celebrate each other's success。 This book gives multiple messages and has the potential to spark interesting conversations with children。 Whether that be children with SEN needs or cultural background differences, it all ties in perfectly to equality。 What a great book on building friendships and unity in friendships。 Four girls who are so different yet so similar who then grow independently to become women。 They have different interests and hobbies yet still support each other and celebrate each other's success。 This book gives multiple messages and has the potential to spark interesting conversations with children。 Whether that be children with SEN needs or cultural background differences, it all ties in perfectly to equality。 。。。more

Although at first this book seems to be for young children, as you continue reading it appears more suited to older children and even adults。 The story follows four girls from when they meet as young children to them as women。 There are clear themes of friendship and support, highlighting what it means to be a good friend, including both the ups and the downs。 The book shows how strong friendships can empower women to succeed in whatever path they choose。 Older children would be able to relate t Although at first this book seems to be for young children, as you continue reading it appears more suited to older children and even adults。 The story follows four girls from when they meet as young children to them as women。 There are clear themes of friendship and support, highlighting what it means to be a good friend, including both the ups and the downs。 The book shows how strong friendships can empower women to succeed in whatever path they choose。 Older children would be able to relate to the changes and challenges of friendships more than younger ones so the book is probably most suitable to KS2 children。 An interesting book to explore, possibly alongside PSHE。 。。。more

Thought I reviewed this awhile ago when I read it。 Was alright, appreciated the nod to one of the girls ending up in a non-hetero couple and another being single (by choice I think)。 But all in all, as some reviewers have said, it felt a bit surface-y, like all the considerations were in there for diversity points, and they repeatedly told us how good of friends these girls were, but I didn't really feel it, in the way a really good book can do。That said, I could totally see myself reading this Thought I reviewed this awhile ago when I read it。 Was alright, appreciated the nod to one of the girls ending up in a non-hetero couple and another being single (by choice I think)。 But all in all, as some reviewers have said, it felt a bit surface-y, like all the considerations were in there for diversity points, and they repeatedly told us how good of friends these girls were, but I didn't really feel it, in the way a really good book can do。That said, I could totally see myself reading this as a little girl and being like "which one am I, which ones are my friends??" in that Now and Then identity-seeking way young girls have, so it may actually be quite effective for that audience。 。。。more

This is a great book about a group of girl friends。 I love that the book focuses on how the girls support one another through good and bad times。 It also emphasizes that good friends can be different, and that is a good thing! Plus, beautiful illustrations! Looking forward to reading this time and time again with my kids。

Arrived from Mutha-Hood this morning, and reallythink it’ll be a great addition to my ‘Books to Read At Brownies’ list。 I’ve started to read to them while they’re working on something, and think this will be perfect for them。

This is a great book for children who are starting to learn to read。 It is a short story that follows four young girls from different backgrounds journey into adulthood。 All connected by their friendship。 It is a beautifully inclusive book representing different sexualities and races。 Definitely a staple to have in a classroom!

The illustrations are lovely, but there's no actual story - it just says they continued to be friends as they got jobs, fell in love etc。 It's a nice idea, but has nothing to hold a young reader's attention, and just comes across as a bit preachy。 If I'd seen it in a bookshop I wouldn't have bothered but had to buy online as they're all currently closed。 Also some of the subject matter is a bit adult (broken hearts and finding new love) and there's no attempt to unpack what that means in an age The illustrations are lovely, but there's no actual story - it just says they continued to be friends as they got jobs, fell in love etc。 It's a nice idea, but has nothing to hold a young reader's attention, and just comes across as a bit preachy。 If I'd seen it in a bookshop I wouldn't have bothered but had to buy online as they're all currently closed。 Also some of the subject matter is a bit adult (broken hearts and finding new love) and there's no attempt to unpack what that means in an age appropriate way。 Disappointed。 。。。more

I could not love this book more。 It is simply divine。 A glorious celebration of lifetime female friendships and all the ways they lift us up, despite our differences。

This book is a must! I enjoyed everything of it。 The ethnic complexity, the gay identity, the character in a wheelchair, the fact the protagonists are still mates, given their differences, is really good。 I'd like this book to read in any school。 This book is a must! This book tells the stories of four best friends as they grow up together。 The story describes the situations they faced as friends and how they learned to support each other。 The book follows them as young children to adults later in life。 This book would be a good read-aloud for younger students around grades K-2。 This could be used in the classroom to open up conversations about what it means to be a friend and what that looks like。

Clara

This book is a must have! I loved everything about it。 the cultrual diversity, the gay pride, the character in a wheelchair, the way the characters are all friends despite their differences is very very beautiful。 I would have this book to read in every classroom。 It is an 11/10 I loved it。 I would use this book to teach individuality and how to be a friend。

Leah Smith

I love this book!!! Really strong messages about female friendship, girls supporting girls, girls being able to be anything (president, doctor, mum, traveller etc)。

Maria Martins

This is a beautiful story about female empowerment。 I absolutely loved the diverse representation of POC and LGBT characters。 I am a strong believer of women supporting other women which makes it wonderful to see in media instead of the usual narrative we get of women being pitted against each other。 This story shows children what healthy friendships look like and how having a support network of close friends can change your life。

Sarah

My 7-year-old daughter picked out this book at the library today and told me that it was so good and I had to read it。 This book was so incredibly sweet, and I loved it so much。 If you want a feel-good book about the importance and power of friendship, look no further。 This book follows the lives of a group of girls and shows how their friendship with one another evolves as they grow up。 Such a beautiful book。

The head of Wellbeing read this to the children today in assembly to go with the weeks theme of dreams and goals。 It’s a gorgeous picture book about 4 childhood friends who support each other through the good and bad things in life and never give up ❤️

A book about the power of friendship, particularly supportive female friendships。 This could be a really nice book to use as a discussion point when there are tensions between friends in class or to illustrate what makes a good friendship。
